St. Patrick’s Day: How to Celebrate Safely with Your Pets
As the blooms flourish and the world turns all green, St. Patrick’s Day offers us merriment and good cheer. But in the midst of fun and celebration, do not forget to accommodate your pets. To ensure you both have some fun, here are a few tips on how to safely enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day together with your pet.
Watch your booze
Raising a pint during the St. Patrick’s Day is part of the festivities, however, be sure to keep your beer away from your pet. Alcohol has been known to harm pets; it can have dire consequences such as depression and even lethargy. Wipe all spilled drinks, and your pet may be tempted to take a sip. Instead of alcohol, provide a healthy food for your pet.
Stay away from the Irish Soda Bread
As much as you may be tempted to share some Soda bread with you pet, resist the urge! Soda bread contains raisins that can cause harm to the kidneys of dogs. Instead, indulge in pet-friendly nibbles.
Be careful about Shamrocks
Also known as the oxalis or sorrel, the iconic shamrocks are bitter tasting to humans, but quite toxic to a dog. Symptoms of poisoning to look out for include lethargy, vomiting, and change to a pet’s urine cycle. As such, keep them away from your pet.
Avoid crowds and parades
While it is fun to attend parades and celebrations with your pet in tow, they tend to be quite taxing to them. Crowds, loud noise, and an unfamiliar environment tend to stress pets out. Instead, set up a calm space at home where you pet feels safest.
Go for pet-friends photo sessions
Find something nice for your pet to dress in and together capture a memorable St. Patrick’s Day. Later, you could share your photos with the rest of the family, or put them up on your pet’s social media page.
Green treats and toys
Spoil your dog with treats and toys with a St. Patrick’s Day theme. Find chew toys in the shape of Shamrocks or prepare green goodies at home for your pet to enjoy on this day.
Check your decorations
If you are a throwing a St. Patrick’s Day decoration, be sure that your pets cannot access items like balloons, glitters or streamers. If your dog eats any of these, it might lead to digestive problems.
The reason we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is to appreciate luck and the joy in our lives. Follow the tips we have listed here to ensure that you and your pet have a great time celebrating this day.
